Why I Choose Jesus

Choose the man who chose you first.

Why I Choose Jesus

For the most part of my life I did not choose Jesus. A good friend once told me, "Before I loved Jesus, I loved the world." I couldn't have said it better, honestly. For the first 19 years of my life, I loved the world so much. I loved drinking, gossiping, sex, I loved it all. In March, God aligned my path with someone who would influence me to walk with Christ. Not just walk with Christ, she wanted me to full on hold hands with him. Ever since then, I chose Jesus instead of the world. Here is just a couple of reasons why everyday I choose Jesus.

1. Jesus understands.

He just understands, you know? He realizes all the wickedness in the world. He has saw all of the terrible things we do and still chooses to love us anyway. He brought people back from the dead and healed the sick. Because he cares. He cares about us and the love he has for us is everlasting. His love is better than any worldly love we will ever know.

2. Because he gets angry.

God gets upset at all of the wrong in the world. When I think about this, I like to compare it to parent-child relationships. Parents who care, get genuinely upset at their children when they do bad things. God loves us, and wants us to do well and follow him. Just like our parents want us to do well and follow their rules. I would be concerned if God didn't get mad. Jesus turned over tables in the synagogue because anger is the right emotion to feel when injustice is happening. When God gets angry about the injustice in the world, it's only because he cares about us and loves us so deeply

3. Because he holds me accountable.

Sooner or later we'll stand before God and he will judge us based on the life we lived. We will be held accountable for the sins we have committed. I think this is the part people seem to dislike so much. In reality, we can't go around being buck wild. There are consequences to the bad things we do and I'm glad my God holds me accountable. Because if he did not, imagine how we would live our lives? We would live life with no remorse for the sins we commit.

4. It's too dangerous not to choose Jesus.

If the world ends and Jesus doesn't come back, I wasted my time. No big deal. If the world ends and Jesus DOES come back, I'm guaranteed ever lasting life. Sounds like an easy choice to me. Christianity emphasizes a very real and secure meeting with God which will result in either everlasting life or hell. People never expect their houses to burn down, but you get homeowner's insurance anyway.

5. Jesus fixes what is broken.

We have a God that will fix our brokenness. Everything that goes wrong, he will fix. Jesus wants everyone: the poor, rich, and especially the lost. I love that I came to Jesus a total mess and he is currently molding me and shaping me into exactly what he wants me to be.

Jesus chose me when I was lost and insecure. He loved me when I couldn't love myself. Today and everyday I choose Jesus because after all, he chose us first.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
