I am currently a junior in college pursuing a bachelor's in anthropology with an emphasis in cultural anthropology. It was a journey to get here, and I still have a long way to go before I really figure myself out, but here's why I chose the degree I did.
Let's go way back.
When I was younger, I went through all types of phases like most youngsters. I wanted to be a zoologist, an architect, a teacher, a historian, and even an aerospace engineer before I figured out how bad at math I was.
The one thing I always held true to was I always wanted to be some type of scientist, or do something with science in whatever field I chose.
The first half of high school was my architect phase, but I just couldn't do all the math. The last half, I decided I would get a degree in history and figure the rest out later.
I went to a community college and got my associates degree, and by the time I was done with that, I had decided to switch to anthropology.
Here's why:
If you do not know what the subject is, anthropology is the study of the human experience. Anthropologists study every aspect of humanity, and the array of different options gives so many different paths for me to follow to truly find my passion in life.
I am truly a very indecisive person, so I still don't really know what I want out of a career in the field, but I'm slowly figuring it out. Studying the human experience can be really exciting and very interesting all in a sort of humbling way.
If you are trying to find your right degree, it's important to not limit yourself and weigh every single option; sometimes, the best path is one you didn't even know existed.
Since I transferred from a community college, I have only had a couple of anthropology classes, I honestly feel kind of behind my classmates but that's perfectly fine. College isn't about how fast you get through it, it's about gaining all the knowledge and experiences you can while you're there.

I think I made the right choice, but I'll just have to wait and see what the future holds.
So, the moral of this short story is just go with your heart and just do you! Even if you make the wrong choice and have to change your major later, it's no big deal, and it's never too late.
