I’ve been struggling lately in a lot of ways about the recent attacks in our world. I’ve been struggling with finding the right way to express my feelings for what is going on in the world. Struggling to try and understand why this is happening in our world and why it continues to happen. But, I think the hardest part for me, is trying to find the right words to say. There are no words that I or anyone can say to make any of this - Newtown, Boston, Manchester, Paris, Barcelona, Charlottesville, Vegas, anywhere - okay. I can’t give parents their children back and I can’t give children their parents back. I can’t go back in time and warn people that this is going to happen. I can’t warn people that when they are having a nice day, feeling so safe and are surrounded by family, and friends, and laughter, I can’t warn them that it would all be taken away from them out of hate.
All of these attacks, these senseless, heartbreaking, unnecessary attacks were committed out of hate. Hate for others for being who they are, hate for someone for having a different skin color, religion, ethnicity, etc, and hate for just hate. I can’t help think why people think it’s okay to commit such acts and say such awful things. Why someone thinks they can take someone else’s life away. I wish I knew the answer.
I think the worst part of it all is that when senseless tragedies happen, we look to higher powers for guidance and words of wisdom, except today in 2017 we aren’t met with that. We are met with the defending of white supremacists as “very fine people” and calling NFL players “sons of bitches.” The president of our country is the root of all of this hate. He goes off on twitter rants and says whatever he wants on national television, and people then think they can do and say whatever they want in return. It baffles me that this man, who has 15 sexual assault allegations out against him, who has spent more time on the golf course than he has in office, is the face of the nation.
So to all the families and friends and innocent lives that were affected by these tragedies, I am truly, truly heartbroken for you. I am so sorry this happened and I am so sorry it continues to happen. I am sorry that the president of our country makes no effort to have stricter gun control and only worries about when tee time is. I am sorry that we, as a nation, can no longer feel safe doing everyday activities. I am sorry to everyone who has been looked at differently, been verbally or physically attacked by someone for being who you are, and for all the hate still in this world.
