Life is full of choices, what am I going to wear today? What am I going to cook for dinner? Am I going out tonight or am I going to study?
One choice I make everyday is to chose joy. There is so much negativity in today's world and if you let it, it can really effect you. You can be upset that Donald Trump is your president, you can be upset that global warming is happening and you can be upset that your car broke down the other day.
These are all good reasons to be upset, but if you let them control your mind that isn't going to do you any good. Instead of focusing on the negatives of these situations, find the positives in them and choose joy.
Donald Trump, he is probably high on a lot of list of negative things. Instead of being mad that Donald Trump is your president, be thankful that you get to live in a country with so many freedoms. Here we have the freedom of speech AND religion. We are able to dress in clothes that we pick out ourselves and so that we are comfortable. We are able to go to the store at any minute of any day. While you might not agree with who our leader is, you are a member of the free world. Choose Joy.
Global warming is a serious issue. There will likely be more air pollution, more frequent and dangerous heat waves and heavier rainstorms and flooding. While there isn't a lot of good in the above list, there is some positive in the list. There are going to be countless jobs created because of global warming. The world needs people to come up with solutions to help people through the tough times of global warming and slow the process. Choose Joy.
Car issues are no fun. I have had my fair share of car breakdowns, at the least convenient times. My most recent one was just over a month ago. It was near the end of finals week, and I was driving home from work one morning on my way to take an online final and my car broke down on the side of the highway. As I was sitting in tears, waiting for a tow truck to come, I realized that being upset about not having a car wasn't going to do me any good. I took a minute, told myself three things I was thankful for in that minute, and my perspective was instantly changed. Instead of being upset that I was without a car for the next 48 hours, I chose to find joy in that fact that my car was fixable and that I had friends to drive me around. Choose Joy.
So, the next time you find yourself in a less than ideal situation, I challenge you to find things you are thankful for in that minute. And remember, Choose Joy, today and everyday to come.
