Why Did I Choose To Go Greek?

"Like, don't you just pay for friends?"

Why Did I Choose To Go Greek?
Jamie O'Connor

Going Greek was a concept I wasn't sure I would ever consider. I didn't think I would actually follow through with it because, I always had numerous people telling me don't do it- so I didn't. It wasn't until my sophomore year spring semester that I decided to finally just go for it and see what happens. I had looked at the sororities on campus multiple times before I committed to the sorority I'm in now. I can honestly say, joining a sorority was one of the best decisions I could have made for myself. I fell in love with all of my sisters instantly. I have met so many incredible people in such a short amount of time and have created so many friendships that I'll cherish forever. Joining a sorority made me really be able to find myself and feel a part of something, which I think is the best part about this whole experience so far. I’ve done so many things that I probably wouldn’t have even thought about doing if it wasn’t for being in such a great organization. I still get the questions like, “Aren’t you just paying for your friends”? Or, “Don’t you just party all the time”? The answer to both those questions is no. I definitely don’t pay just to have friends; all the money goes towards different things we do, or goes towards more recruitment stuff. Every organization has to have money to do things, and that’s why we spend money on it. There is so much more to being Greek than some people may think too. We do a lot to give back as well, such as community service, or doing different things to raise money for our philanthropy. Those are some things that don't get recognized too much but, we do spend a great amount of time on them. If there’s one thing I am so extremely happy about it’s the fact I didn’t listen to the people telling me not to join. Going Greek was by far the best choice I could have made for myself, and I wouldn’t change any decision I’ve made.

If I have learned one thing in my lifetime, it is that friends are a privilege. No one is required to give you their company and yet there is some sort of shared connection that keeps you together. And from that friendship, you may even find yourself lucky enough to have a few more friends, thus forming a group. Here are just a few signs that prove your current friend group is the ultimate friend group.

When it comes to television, there’s very few sets of on-screen siblings that a lot of us can relate to. Only those who have grown up with siblings knows what it feels like to fight, prank, and love a sibling. Ross and Monica Geller were definitely overbearing and overshared some things through the series of "Friends," but they captured perfectly what real siblings feel in real life. Some of their antics were funny, some were a little weird but all of them are completely relatable to brothers and sisters everywhere.

Her sister was a member, her mom was a member, all of her aunts were members, and her grandma was a member. She has been waiting her whole life to wear these letters and cried hysterically on bid day. Although she can act entitled at times, you can bet she is one of the most enthusiastic sisters.

Every kid in college and/or high school dreams of summer the moment they walk through the door on the first day back in September. It becomes harder and harder to focus in classes and while doing assignments as the days get closer. The winter has been lagging, the days are short and dark, and no one is quite themselves due to lack of energy and sunlight. Let's face it: life is ten times better in the summertime.
