You heard right Chipotle lovers; your go-to spot for heavenly burrito bowls will be closed for an unbearable couple of hours. However, before you begin crushing your lime tortilla chips in despair and question why the carnitas gods have forsaken you, Chipotle wants to assure you that it is all for a good cause.
The company has decided to close its stores nationwide on Feb. 8, for a meeting to discuss what the future of Chipotle looks like and what changes can be made. Lately, the company has suffered some criticism from customers concerning the several E. coli outbreaks in their restaurants.
In addition, 64 people in Minnesota were infected with Salmonella and another 100 people were exposed to norovirus in Southern California. Many more incidents followed, leaving Chipotle with apprehensive customers, plummeting stock, a drop in sales and mocking social media posts.
A meeting like this could serve as a pivotal first step in a comeback for Chipotle. The company plans on developing a new marketing campaign in order to win back the loyalty and faith of their customers.
Chris Arnold, a spokesman for Chipotle, reported that the company has been accident free for two months. The ceasing of E. coli cases is good news for the company and there is hope that the Center for Disease Control will declare the end of the outbreaks soon.
Although, staying away from Chipotle for a few hours will pose an impossible challenge, we are happy to hear they are taking the time to make sure their customers are happy and their food is safe. Also, if they are accepting ideas from the public, perhaps they can ensure that this sign is never a reality. Ever again.
Just a suggestion.
