Back in June, many fans were left embarrassed and humiliated after Chile scored 7-0 against Mexico in the tournament Copa America Centenario. For Chile, it wasn’t enough leaving Mexico without the chance of going on to the semifinals.
They went further and wiped Mexico’s pride with their victory making sure no one ever forgets that they were the ones who caused the biggest loss Mexico’s National Football team has endured and the ones who snapped the team’s 22-game winning streak with Juan Carlos Osorio as coach. It was not long before the coach himself expressed his apologies to fans of Mexico’s National Football Team. According to American Press, Juan Carlos said, “First, I'd like to offer my most heartfelt apologies to the Mexican fans. Today was a shameful presentation, an accident that happens in soccer.
Obviously, there are bigger tragedies, but speaking in terms of sports, today was a very, very poor showing on our part. I repeat my apologies to all the people and fans." After Juan Carlos Osorio spoke, teammates from Mexico’s National Football Team did not let a second go by and also expressed their apologies to their fans. One of them was Javier Hernandez, also known as “Chicharito.” He stated on his Instagram account (ch14_instagram): “My sincere apologies to Mexico, that we were not able to represent the way you guys were deserved to be represented. We are very embarrassed, disappointed, and hurt…”
Many fans reacted to his statement in a very positive way; they expressed their grief but also their understanding of the situation, commenting many inspirational quotes to help with his sorrow. In conclusion, many fans believed that Mexico did not deserve to lose the way they did today, but what was done on Saturday night was done and there is no turning back. There is nothing left to do but support Mexico’s National Football Team and move forward.
Juan Carlos Osorio’s future as coach of the National Mexico Football Team is uncertain. One of the articles written by John Arnold on Goal.com states how Juan Carlos Osorio cannot afford to have something like what happened that night occur again since Mexico has very little patience to small transgressions. Hopefully, the team and fans recover soon from this loss and put all of this behind, and continue to move forward as they have better opportunities to shine to the best of their ability.
