We are so busy with our own lives that we hardly stop and think about how we can spend a bit of our time to help others. These are a list of children's charities that you may or may not have heard of but are definitely worth donating to/being a part of. I've had personal experience with some of these charities through school as well as my local community. If any of these sound like something that interests you doing some extra research about them on your own is definitely worth the time!
1. Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID)
All kids reach a point where it is time for them to go to a college or university. the AVID college readiness program makes sure that students are ready for that chapter in their lives and that they are able to succeed.
2. Boys & Girls Clubs of America
3. International Child Art Foundation
4. Locks of Love
5. St. Baldrick's Foundation
I first knew about St. Baldrick's through middle school when my friend shaved his head for a child with cancer. Like locks of love, you have the option your hair to make wigs for those children suffering. Another alternative is to donate. All the money donated to this charity goes to finding a cure for cancer for children.
6. Make-a-wish Foundation
7. March of Dimes
March of Dimes helps mothers and their children by preventing possible birth defects and helping maintain the mother's health.
8. Ronald McDonald House Charities
Not only is RMHC known for supporting children's health by granting hospital expenses and teaching people about how to raise children in a healthier environment, they have scholarship programs for college students to help further their education.
9. Special Olympics
10. St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
11. Toys for Tots
Everyone knows what it feels like to receive a gift. Through this organization, you can give new, unwrapped toys for children around the time of the holidays. This is an amazing thing to do for the parents that can't afford to buy their children gifts for Christmas.
12. United States Fund for UNICEF
You'll probably see UNICEF donation boxes from time to time, whether that be at your local grocery store or the main office at an elementary school. This is because this organization relays a strong belief in improving a child's overall quality of life no matter where they are. They focus on providing food, shelter, education, and a sense of worth for children all around the world.
