I’m not sure about everyone else, but to me it almost seems as if children these days are born with advanced knowledge of technology.
What happened to the days where kids went outside and played with the rest of the kids on the block? The days where the floor where was lava and your only hope of living was making that long leap from one couch to the other?
Everywhere I look I see kids with a phone in their hand and they are oblivious to the world around them. I know that when I was younger, the only way to have fun was getting outside and making the best of my imagination. My friends and I would hangout, play tag and sports. Just about anything that kept our bodies going and our imaginations flowing.
According to a study by Florida Hospital, parents play huge role in why kids spend excessive amounts of time using technology. Technology allows the child to be distracted as well as being focused, so that while their parent is trying to get ready, clean or make dinner, the parent isn’t distracted themselves and that is appealing to them.
Technology doesn’t only decreases the imagination flow of children, but in some cases, it effects the amount physical activity, too. It leaves some kids overweight and obese, therefore leading to other health problems. In order for kids to stay fit and healthy, it is important that children get outside and play.
Although there are many negative factors that come from using technology there are plenty of positive ones that possibly benefit children in the long run.
A research study by Pew determined that by the year 2020 will be for more advanced with multi-tasking at other cognitive skills whereas anyone age 35 and above might not be. Modern day children learn more quickly and pick things up faster than those who were born over 20 years ago.
There is much more to technology than what meets the eye, or in some cases, the hand. Though it is entertaining and a definite way to pass time, it affects us in so many more ways than just giving us something to do.
