On December 15th, 2018, Childish Gambino arrived in Phoenix, Arizona to perform in front of thousands of people at Gila River Arena. After Vince Staples performed his opening act, the crowd was buzzing with excitement as for what was to come next. Thirty plus minutes later, the lights shut off. A single light glows from the stage as Gambino rises up.
"If you bought a ticket to this show tonight, then that means you bought a ticket to the last Childish Gambino concert ever." Gambino stated to the crowd. "Put your phones down because this, right here, this is church. This isn't a concert, it's a performance, and I'm going to perform my very best for you."
Living up to his promise, Gambino gave the crowd a show they would remember forever. From playing songs on his most recent album, Awaken, My Love, to throwing it back with songs off of his oldest album. Gambino had the crowd moving along with each beat and each groove. At one point, he even left the stage and sang in the middle of the crowd to interact with fans.
Childish Gambino still plans on creating music and even gave the crowd a sneak peek into one of his upcoming songs. But, as for touring, this seems uncertain. Could he just be taking a break to focus on music or is Gambino truly done for good?
While everyone loves Gambino's music, his fans have been even more excited about the upcoming live-action Lion King movie coming out in July 2019. Gambino will be playing Simba and with Beyoncé as Nala right by his side, the music soundtrack is bound to be absolutely beautiful.
But the real question is, what lies ahead for Gambino after the movie is released? Is he planning on furthering his movie career or focusing still on his music?
Gambino has a sound unlike any artist, and hopefully, we'll get to enjoy it for much longer.
