Childhood Best Friends

You don't really know how you became friends, but you wouldn't have it any other way.

Childhood Best Friends

Everyone has those friends that they have been friends with forever. You don't really understand how you got so lucky to have those friends, you just know you have been friends for a really long time. Back when I was maybe 3 years old, I had met one of my childhood best friends and little did I know that person would become a lifetime friend.

My twin sister and I started daycare at our daycare mom's house, whose name is Kris. I remember hating going to daycare because I always wanted to be with my mom. It made me feel a bit more comfortable knowing my twin sister was with me at daycare though. My twin Haley and I went to daycare like normal little kids and we both had no idea that our daycare mom's daughter would still be one of our closest friends to this day.

Sami, Kris' daughter, always wanted to be with Haley. She basically hated me and had no liking for me. And to this day, I still do not know why. Eventually we matured, and Sami and I became close friends and things were fine. Looking back, we had so many fun memories together. From all the times we would do gymnastics in the pool to "cleaning" Sami's messy room (And by cleaning, I really mean just shoving stuff in her closet and hope the door would shut), we had a lot of fun together. "The Cheetah Girls" was one of our favorite movies, and we loved it so much we put together our own show and invited all the neighbors over to watch our show. We had an admission fee and a fee for candy, popcorn and drinks. I think we made about $4 each that day, but it was the fun we had doing it. Sadly, Sami had gotten really sick and was not able to perform in our show that day. We were missing our Dorinda. I don't think the three of us will ever forget that day!

There were countless amounts of lemonade stands, gymnastic shows (even though I was terrible at it), dancing shows and everything in between. Sami, Haley and I did everything together. We never wanted to be apart. We were called the triplets from many people because we were always together.

By the time the three of us were in our young teen years, Sami's family decided it was time for them to move. Haley, Sami and I were sad, knowing we wouldn't be living 100 feet from each other anymore. We would always beg our parents to let us have just "one more sleepover" before Sami moved. Jason, Sami's dad, would always say to us, "Gosh you three, we are just moving across town, not across the country." Even knowing Sami was only moving a couple of miles down the road, we would always say we needed one more sleepovers together.

This picture was from our first ever sleepover!

As the three of us grew older, we stuck close by each others' side. We started doing grown up girl things like getting our nails done, going on shopping trips and going to the beach. As Sami's new house was being built, her family spent a summer at a rental house right on Lake Waconia. Even though it was an old rusty house, we made many more memories there too. I will never forget the day we all believed the house was haunted, and we heard a bunch of really odd noises coming from the basement. No one was home besides Sami, Haley and I. We all were sitting in Sami's bedroom, and we rushed into the bathroom. We chose that room because it had a lock on the door. We locked ourselves into the bathroom and held the door shut because we thought something was after us. We probably spent a good four hours in there, and we managed to give each other "pedicures" while we waited for Sami's mom, Kris, to come home. Finally when she got home, she checked around the house and it turns out we sat in the bathroom for four hours for no reason at all.

During the summer, the three of us would take trips to my grandma and grandpa's house, so Haley and I could take care of my grandma while my grandpa went out on his motorcycle rides with his buddies. We would keep my grandma entertained and she always got a chuckle at the funny things we would do. During the summers, before any of us got our licenses, we would bike to target to go get lunch together. We thought we were so cool going out without our parents.

Looking back, Sami, Haley and I have made so many memories together. We have stuck together ever since daycare, and we are still as close as can be. Now, being that we are in college, we have a lot of the same interests and can relate so well. Sami will be headed off to UND this fall, and Haley and I will be going back to Mankato. It will be a change for Sami to be five hours from us, but I know we will still stay in touch. I love the friendship that it doesn't take much effort to keep a close relationship with someone. Even though time has went by, the three of us have never lost the friendship we had from the beginning. We have seen each other grow from our ugly middle school years, into our mature, grown up college selves. I cant wait to see what will be in the future for our friendship, but I know I already have two of my future bridesmaids! That is, if I ever find a boyfriend first.

P.s. I could write a novel on all our fun memories.

Love you always Weedwacker (Sami), and of course my twin sister Snowplow (Haley).

Love,

Dumptruck

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
