As a child, I remember waking up every single morning during the summer being so completely impatient to go on adventures with my friends that my mom had to make a rule that I was NOT allowed to call any of my friends until after 10 in the morning. So, of course, as any child would do, I sat by the phone early to wait until exactly 10 o’clock to call my friends! I was pretty much always an early riser. My best friend, let’s just say, is much more of a night owl. Even though sometimes she and I are complete opposites, we sure made a lot of amazing summer memories together.
We have always had a wild imagination of sorts.
Since I can remember (which is not very much at times anymore) my best friend, Emma, and I have always been kind of oddballs. Our parents would even tell us more times than not how unusual we were but that never stopped us! We were always making up some kind of off the wall play to perform for our families. They were always forced to suffer through our long, extravagant plays that we would imagine up. We even forced them to record a good majority of our God awful creations.
We were the good ones.
I remember us being so young and innocent at a time, where has the time gone? During our daily summer activities, other than imagining up a crazy world, we filled up our free time doing all kinds of different types of arts and crafts. Every day there was always a new task for us to scoop up and put all of our imagination into. Amongst us using our wild and crazy imaginations, we always had time to make ourselves some delicious food.
Is summer even summer without delicious food?
I think my answer to that would definitely be a no! From our early morning breakfasts (with my delicious egg omelets) to our nightly out of this world bonfire creations at night. Some of my greatest summer memories have to involve our bonfires. I would always beg for us to have bonfires, for two main reasons, s’mores and us being allowed to burn everything we could get our little hands on (to an extent of course)! These were the times that technology had not yet fully corrupted us.
I miss the times when summer was about friends, not technology.
Even though we grew up on new and improving technology, we never let it ruin any of our fun. I do have to admit though that a good bit of our time was aimed toward either watching YouTube videos or creating them. Most of our inside jokes were based on either of these two things! Sometimes I look back on all of the summer time memories we had and I think to myself… why on God's green earth did we let us do these crazy things to ourselves! Then I remember how thankful I am to have been able to create such amazing memories with a best friend like you.
