A Thank You To My Childhood Stuffed Animal

You taught me how to be imaginative in a world that can try to suppress your creativity.

A Thank You To My Childhood Stuffed Animal
Carol Schell

We all have that stuffed animal (or a few) that meant the world to us, and probably still does. If we could just "talk" to them again, we would probably tell them something that goes like this:

I can't help it, but time has swiftly passed, causing me to grow up to leave you behind. Maybe I still keep you close whether it be in my room at home or in my college dorm, but the days of playing with you are long gone. As much as I wish I could be a child again and play with you, I know I have other priorities to tend to.

Just because I've stopped playing with you doesn't mean I've forgotten all the memories I've had with you. You were the stuffed animal I would turn to through the exciting times as a kid, but also the bad times (let's be real, our "bad" times were when we were sick or had a boo boo). You meant everything to me. There wasn't a day I didn't take you with me on whatever adventure I went on.

You were the best friend anyone could have as a child. You never judged, and never left. You let me hug you thousands of times and just the sight of you cheered me up. Having you in my life taught me that our minds are much more powerful than we think. We can create a world in which we want to live if we put our minds to it.

Through you, I was able to become as creative as I desired. You taught me how to form an imagination within a society that wants to suppress that creativity sometimes. You taught me how to play with others and how to put our minds together to make a dream a reality. I could go on and on about all that you taught me, but I want you to know that I am grateful for all you have given me as a child.

I saw my future self in you.

So thank you for the amazing childhood my loves.

Sincerely,

A young adult who wishes they were a kid again

P.S. This one is for you Piglet, Big Pig, Pigla, Piglea, and Pigleala

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
