You always hear stories about famous celebrities that showed glimpses of their talent and future careers before they could even walk.
Justin Bieber's cute AF videos of him singing and playing the drums in diapers, for example. Or Selena Gomez's early acting days on Barney. Not to mention the incredible singing, dancing, and performing skills of Michael Jackson in the Jackson 5 that foreshadowed the rest of his successful career onstage.
Well I, on the other hand, am not a born star. You won't catch me winning multiple Grammy's for best album of the year or an Oscar for my outstanding performance as the lead role in my new drama film.
However, according to the prediction from MY childhood, you might find me living my life like Carrie Bradshaw with my own column in a big-time newspaper in New York City!
When I was just 10 years old and while I was still in elementary school, I created an advice column via e-mail called "Ask Alice". In my little fourth grade mind, I designed this advice e-mail to be able to listen to people's problems and give them advice anonymously, or, as "Alice".
I would tell my friends in school that I had a friend named Alice who had started the business and that they should e-mail her if they ever need advice (kids are so cute and naive).
I would also print out flyers about the anonymous column and post them on my neighborhood pool's bulletin board to gain even more "clients" (look at me, little young entrepreneur!)
Although the extent of the problems I was giving advice about dealt with things like who you should play with at recess and who you should invite to your birthday party, I found so much joy and satisfaction with writing people back and giving my best advice.
But if we're being honest here, along with the pleasure of helping someone out by giving them advice, I think in the back of my 10-year-old mind. This was my way of also being in the know of everyone's little secrets and problems (this is scarily sneaky but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't proud of myself).
Although Carrie Bradshaw's column deals with a much different category than what I was helping my fellow fourth graders with, I think I was onto something back in the day!
Sometimes the younger version of yourself foretells the path that you will travel in your older years. Given that I have a passion for writing and for giving people advice when they come to me, I think it's possible we could see a comeback of "Ask Alice" in the future!
