When Your Childhood Best Friend Gets Engaged

I can't believe we went from little girls dreaming of our wedding days, to actually planning your wedding and inviting me to be apart of your big day.

When Your Childhood Best Friend Gets Engaged

One of my lifelong best friends just got engaged, and I couldn't be anymore thrilled for her and her fiancé. It's absolutely crazy to think that 15 years ago we were talking about what we wanted our wedding dresses to look like while playing dress up in my room. Now, it's even crazier to see it actually becoming a reality.

When I got the news that your boyfriend had finally proposed, I was ecstatic. Not only was this my first friend getting married, it was one of my best friends, which meant I was going to be able to help her plan her wedding and be there for all the emotional times leading up to the big day. Once I got my invite to be a bridesmaid, it made everything that much more real.

Over the past few years, I've gotten to know both you and your fiancé pretty well and it's safe to say that I think you guys really got lucky with one another. From hearing how you used to talk about how much you adore spending time with your boyfriend and his family, to seeing how far your relationships have grown with each other. Not only that, but to be able to see the the way he looked at you like he would do anything for you when you first started dating, and seeing that he would still drop whatever he was doing if you needed him because that's what he's there for.

It blows my mind to have watched your relationship together grow over the past six years, and I know he made the right choice. You two have a relationship that's truly built on being bonded and connected to each other. It shows that dating, romance and love are still very real in this modern day of non-commitment, and although it may be hard, it's extremely worth it.

Together we have grown up from little girls to young women, and everyday it's more and more real that we're really growing up and becoming adults. We've been along each other's side, miles apart, for what seems like forever, but we've never missed a big moment or even a quick lunch date for buttered noodles in our life and we never will. I can't lie and say I didn't cry a little bit while writing this, but I can say I've never been more happy and excited to be apart of this next adventure in your life.

While wedding planning can be fun but also a headache, remember that I'll be by your side with wine and doughnuts whenever you have a stressed moment or just need some relaxing time. It's obvious that you two goofballs really love each other, and I'm confident that you'll be stuck with one another for the rest of your lives, but in a good way of course.

With that being said, congratulations to my very best friend on your engagement! There's no one else I'd rather see you conquer the world with by your side. You two deserve all the best opportunities and happiness that the world has to offer you in this new chapter of your life!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
