To My Childhood Best Friend

An open letter to the person who made my childhood so special.

To My Childhood Best Friend
She Knows

Dear childhood best friend,

I laugh as I reminisce in my own mind on all the weird things we used to do as kids.

Our sleepovers, playdates, and trips to places around us with our moms because we were not old enough to be left alone.

It didn't matter what we were doing because we always had endless amount of laughter and happiness.

Our friendship was of the purest form because boys didn't get in the way, school wasn't stressful and the only thing we cared about was showing each other our new toys.

I think the greatest thing about a childhood best friend though is technology didn't play a part whatsoever. We didn't take pictures all the time for Instagram, we weren't on our phones all the time, and we didn't want to watch television because it was more entertaining to play outside than to sit in front of the TV.

I am so thankful for all the lessons you taught me when I was younger. You taught me to be open and share my feeling when something was bothering me. You taught me to be myself because you never judged me on what I wore (that is surprising because I dressed myself horribly), what I was thinking, or what I was doing. You just embraced my weirdness.

I am also thankful that I had someone as special as you to do weird things with. Whether that was wearing matching outfits or dancing around in public places. It didn't matter. I knew you would always have my back and I always had yours.

Years go by and we went our separate ways. However, this truly is my favorite part about our friendship. It can be 1 week, 2 months, or 3 years. It doesn't matter, because whenever I see you our friendship picks up right where we left it. We still remember our inside jokes, catching up is easy because I understand you so well, and it is never uncomfortable because we are so close.

We may not talk every day, I may not see you every day, but you were and always will be such an important person in my life. I admit, I partly keep up with your life on social media. However, I am always wondering how you are doing because I miss you endlessly. I would not be the person I am without you. I am beyond thankful for my friendship with you. I know I will have you in my life forever. Thank you for making my childhood so special and wonderful.

Love,

Your childhood best friend

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
