Growing up?
I shudder at the idea!
It’s nothing more than the
Ostracization
Of our true selves.
They glorify being an adult,
But it is all lies.
They systematically
Take away our freedoms.
Slowly, but surely, we trade
What we know for what we
Are told.
We go from being Spongebob
To Squidward,
From Jerry
To Tom,
In just 18 years.
And we, in our childlike,
Innocence,
Didn’t suspect a thing,
Until we look into our reflection
And feel something missing.
The laughter,
Curiosity,
Creativity,
Are all gone.
But,
It is not too late!
Although forgotten,
Everything is still there!
So rise up,
Claim your
Birthright.
For it is yours to use
And yours to lose,
No one else’s.
When the responsibilities
Come weighing you down,
When finances become too much,
When your calendar can’t be managed,
Escape through the wisdom of your
Inner child.
And when we break this “adulthood mold,”
Boys and Girls,
The world will no longer seem so cold.
