The Secret Behind Why Women Love Sad, Sappy Movies

It's a well-known fact that many women love to watch the cheesy, romantic and often super sad movies known as "chick flicks."

I am one of these women and even I have often wondered why we obsess over them so much. I was crying over "Me Before You" in my bed the other night when my fiance` asked me why I watch these movies if they make me sad. Although a simple question, he had a valid point. Why do we watch these movies when they just make us sad?

I did a little research because I was genuinely curious. After watching a few chick flicks and eating way too much popcorn, these are my results.

Viewers of these movies love them because they portray the ultimate love that everyone wants. Even if we already have that love, it does a heart good to watch someone sacrifice themselves for their loved one or even die of old age with them. All of these cheesy movies have that in common. They all depict a tragic event or a love that is doomed from the beginning.

But they all have another variable in common as well: The duo in each movie fight against all odds to be together. Against death, against disagreeing family members, against distance. Often times, when we're lonely or even when our relationships seem dull and haven't faced the same challenges, seeing that kind of love and devotion is refreshing.

Women (and men) love these movies because they show the deepest most personal kind of love and often the most amazing and innocent kind of intimacy. Even if you have that kind of love in your own life, getting to see it from the outside looking in is a different kind of experience and can make you appreciate what you have on a whole other level.

People like these kinds of movies because they let you see what you want most or what you love most in the world, and I think that's beautiful.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.

pale girl

Everyone has insecurities, that's just a fact. You didn't ask to be born this way. You didn't ask to inherit the one trait no one else in your family has. And you definitely didn't ask to be this ghostly white. But as soon as you've learned to live with it for a while (less wrinkles later on in life, right? right???) someone has to ruin it for you. They have to flaunt they're perfectly tanned body from Spring Break and hold their sun-kissed skin against yours. But I've had enough... here are the things that perpetually pale individuals are tired of hearing.
