Summer is here Chicago! You could spend the next three months wasting away indoors, watching Netflix and scrolling through Instagram, or you could get outside and explore this beautiful city you call home. Besides, who needs air conditioning when you could be taking in the sights and sounds of Chicago!
1. Millennium Park Summer Film Series
Every Tuesday from June 13 through September 5 at 6:30 p.m. the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events will be screening a movie at Chicago's famous Jay Pritzker Pavilion. Films this year include "The Blues Brothers" (June 13), "La La Land" (July 18), "Hidden Figures" (Aug 15), and "The Princess Bride" (Aug 29). These screenings are free to the public, just bring your lawn chair and some popcorn!
2. Fireworks at Navy Pier
We all know that one of the best parts about summer is watching fireworks. Starting Memorial Day weekend, Navy Pier will be setting off fireworks display every Wednesday and Saturday night. These displays will last until Labor Day.
3. Printers Row Lit Fest
This outdoor festival is perfect for the bookworm in your life. From June 10-11, the event will span the five city blocks surrounding Printers Row in the South Loop. If you're looking to get a jump on your summer reading list, this is the place to be.
4. Night Out in the Parks
All summer the Chicago Parks District will be bringing free cultural events to parks across the city. This includes everything from movies and theater to music and dancing. Check the times and dates for events in your neighborhood here.
5. "Romeo and Juliet" In The Parks
For those of you looking to spice up your summer with a tale of two star-crossed lovers, Shakespeare in the Parks is perfect for you. This summer the Chicago Shakespeare Theater will be touring the city with their production of "Romeo and Juliet." Who knows? While you're there you may even run into your own Romeo.
6. Chicago Blues Festival
Last but not least, we have the annual Chicago Blues Festival. From June 9-11, join more than 500,000 blues fans as they celebrate in the Blues Capital of the World. This year the festival will take place in Millennium Park.
