It has been 108 years since the Chicago Cubs held the Commissioner’s Trophy at the World Series. And to give you a little background, Theodore Roosevelt was our president.
That is 108 years that have continually passed where they have yet to be successful in clinching major league baseball’s most coveted possession. Some interesting facts about 1908 include: only 8,000 cars drove on minimal paved roads, eggs were 14 cents a dozen, only eight percent of homes had telephones, the American flag had 45 stars, and the average wage was 22 cents.
Chicago fans have patiently waited for this moment. We have witnessed a unified team with a chance at victory in the first time in a long time. Avoiding a wild card game, they already have a head start in being the National League champions.
Their starting rotation is one of the bests, if not the best, major league baseball has seen this year. With three pitchers in the top 20 stat rankings, they show strength on the mound. Not only is their pitching game strong, but also veteran catcher David Ross is looking to walk away from the MLB with the biggest prize. Among positions already mentioned, Addison Russell is one of the strongest shortstops in the country; Jason Heyward has proved his dominance in the right field, and Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are among some of the strongest batters in the country with among the highest RBIs.
This 2016 cubs team has shut out opponents, broken records, but most importantly shown Chicago why you shouldn’t give up on them. They have brought life back to Chicago baseball. The drought of championships might be over this year, but we’ll have to wait and see.
