Game Seven. Two words that hold so much meaning for anyone in the sports world. Whether hockey, basketball, or baseball, game sevens are truly something special. Last week was arguably one of the greatest baseball games in history—Chicago Cubs versus Cleveland Indians, Game 7, World Series. 162-game season and it all came down to one final game. Countless practices, countless pitches, countless plane rides, and it all came down to one final game.

The Chicago Cubs won this emotional mess of a game 7 last week—their first World Series Championship in 108 years. During the celebrations that night and the following few days, multiple times I was left taken back and truly reminded of why I love sports. Just by seeing a video or a picture, I had a smile on my face and was thinking, “Wow, how awesome is that?”

Here are a few examples that reminded me why I love sports:

That is a picture of Chicago and the area around Wrigley field right after the game. The game was in Cleveland. This is not traffic of people leaving the stadium. This is red for all the people in the streets celebrating.

That is truly an inspiration. I always like to hear about the stories of how some of these guys got to the majors or what odds they overcame to make it to the big leagues. To know his story and to see him lift that trophy is beyond special and leaves me speechless.

Here is Kris Bryant making the final out of the game. The final out of a Game 7 in extra innings for the World Series! He is not nervous. He is not panicking. He is not overthinking it. He is smiling. From ear to ear, this man is making the biggest play of his career with the biggest smile on his face. That is just pure joy and happiness being shown.

The oldest guy on the roster finishing his last season in the MLB. What a great way to go out.

The 7th largest gathering in human history. Are you kidding me? I looked at the reasons for some of the other largest gatherings in human history—religion and funerals. Those were the two biggest reasons for having such large crowds. A baseball game brought this many people together. A baseball game. That’s amazing.

I am not a Cubs fan. I am not even much of a baseball guy. But seeing the players’ reactions and the fans’ reactions, I could not help but smile and enjoy every aspect of such a beautiful game.

Congratulations to the 2016 Chicago Cubs and thank you for reminding me why I love sports.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

winter

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
