Let’s be honest, 108 years is a long time. Like a really, really long time. But this hasn’t stopped Cubs' fans. They continue to come out season after season to watch their Cubbies play and sing “Go Cubs Go” with a smile on their faces. This is no small fete when your team has been bad for most fans entire lifetimes.
There is an entire town, Wrigleyville, named after the famed Wrigley Field which is entirely devoted to watching the Cubs and having a good time (oh and some people live there too…). And let me tell you, Cubs fans know how to have a good time! With 46 bars in area (including Sluggers, Cubby Bear, and Murphy’s Bleachers to name a few) there’s always something happening around Wrigley. When the Cubs won the National League pennant on October 22, an estimated 300,000 fans flooded the streets of Wrigleyville to celebrate their long awaited (71 years!) entrance to the World Series.
It’s not just the current residents of Chicago that came out for the Cubs either. Famous fans from all over the country flocked to Wrigley Field. Actor Bill Murray stole everyone’s hearts with his adorable tears after winning the series and his silly Daffy Duck rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam, a known Cubs fanatic and frequenter of Murphy’s Bleachers, not only sang for the seventh-inning stretch but wrote an entire song for his favorite team titled “All the Way.” *A special mention goes out to actor Jon Hamm for staying true to his team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and trolling the Cubs so hard by attending every game at Wrigley Field decked out in Cardinals gear. *
All of this hard work and devotion paid off when finally, after 108 years, THE CUBS WON THE WORLD SERIES. Cubs fans did not disappoint with their celebrations. Fans understandably partied hard for their team and their long awaited victory. At the parade on November, 4, an estimated 5 million people came out to watch the Cubs parade from Wrigley Field to their rally at Grant Park, making it the seventh largest gathering in human history.
Though this win isn’t too shabby, Cubs fans will continue to support their team through thick and thin (although they certainly hope this winning continues!). Because they are the best fans in baseball and have loved their team through it all and will continue for another 108 years and beyond!
