Check out these Halloween specials and movies

So lets face it. Horror movies nowadays suck. Really hard…. But, with Halloween coming up I feel like it would be appropriate to talk about my favorite horror movies and Halloween specials. Check these out.

First lets start with

It’s the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown!

If you don’t know what this is or you don’t like Charlie Brown….. I literally have nothing to say to you. Charlie Brown was a part of everyones lives and this special is no exception. It was probably the first Halloween special I ever saw and ever since I loved Charlie Brown.

The Garfield Halloween special

You know…. For a cartoon about a fat lazy cat, this special is kind of creepy, even for adults. It has this sort of intensity to it, while also being like a cute kids cartoon at the beginning. It’s weird but I love it. Again, I grew up with Garfield and most of us did too but this special is actually very creative in it’s own right. I won’t go in to great detail but you’ll know it when you see it. Watch it.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow (the Disney version)

Disney loves to scare kids. Happiest place on earth? Hahahahahahahh no. If anyone has ever seen this cartoon, the ending is pretty intense and it doesn’t make it better that the man chasing after him is headless and laughing maniacally. Still a damn good cartoon though. A childhood favorite of mine.

Now to talk about some horror films I recommend.

It Follows

It Follows is one of the best independent horror films I have ever seen. While not necessarily scary, people need to know that just because it’s not scary doesn’t mean it isn’t good. It has a clever concept, some very intense moments, smart characters, no stupid ear piercing jump scares, and one of my favorite music scores of all time. David Robert Mitchell knows how to direct a damn good horror movie as well. It Follows has some of the best horror cinematography I have ever seen. The cinematography in of itself makes the movie nostalgic and pretty freaking terrifying.

Don’t Breathe

The most recent horror film on this list.

Does this count as a horror film? Well, I count it.

Fede Alvarez…. I love you.

Mainstream horror movies suck. Let’s face it. But Don’t Breathe is probably the best mainstream horror film I have seen in the past couple of decades. It has an amazing concept, actual smart characters, an amazing terrifying villain, each character has justification for their actions, and it's intense as fuck. It’s just amazing. If anyone asks for a horror movie recommendation I’ll now always say Don’t Breathe.

The Babadook

If you want to know what insanity and grief is like in the best possible and most terrifying way possible, and it’s actually a good movie?

Yeah watch this movie.

The Shining

This is one of the best horror movies ever made. If you don’t like it I hate you. (obviously joking. Like whatever you want)

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Anyone who says they don’t like this movie is a liar and they should never watch another movie again. Fun fact: Tim Burton did not direct this movie. He only came up with the idea for it and produced it. Henry Sellick was the man who directed this movie….. So love him.

It’s clever, it’s funny, the songs are really catchy, the characters are all memorable, it’s an absolutely wonderful film.

Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit

Curse of the Were-Rabbit is my personal favorite animated movie of all time. The energy in this movie is unreal. Every second something is happening, every second is either a joke, or a segment leading up to a joke. Is it scary? I mean…. If you find giant rabbits scary? Then yeah maybe. But come on. Every single joke hits bulleyes and I have quoted this movie more times than not. I personally grew up with Wallace and Gromit so it has a personal thing with me and honestly…. I think this is their best appearance. Everytime someone asks me an animated movie recommendation I always say Wallace and Gromit The Curse of the Were Rabbit. It is a masterpiece not only in Halloween movies, but in animation and comedy in general. Love love love love it.

Murder Party

No one knows of this but trust me… It’s awesome. Pretty much a man gets invited to what he thinks is a costume party but it turns out that it’s a murder party, where people meet up to plot murders. And of course everyone is insane. But I see this movie as one big satire on what people think superiority is, when in reality, superiority does not exist. These people are just too insane to admit it or even realize it. Is it scary? I mean, it’s violent but that’s not what the film is about. It reminds me a lot of Shaun of the Dead, it uses its scares for a means of comedy and it always works.

Shaun of the Dead

One of my all time favorite movies period. Edgar Wright is one of my heroes. If you don’t like Shaun of the Dead, then you don’t like movies because this is made by a true film maker and it’s hilarious. This is one of those movies that defines my life.

That’s it goodnight.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.

Cambio

Singing is something I do all day, every day. It doesn't matter where I am or who's around. If I feel like singing, I'm going to. It's probably annoying sometimes, but I don't care -- I love to sing! If I'm not singing, I'm probably humming, sometimes without even realizing it. So as someone who loves to sing, these are some of the feelings and thoughts I have probably almost every day.
