For those of us who have spent way too much money this year, this article is for you. As much as I would love to take a lavish vacation this year to Mexico or Italy, I can't afford it. However, on those warm summer days off I want to make sure I let lose a little at home. You would be amazed at the things you can do for free, that are totally fun. Here are some great staycation ideas to adopt when leaving your hometown is off the table.

1. Buy a lawn chair, and sunbathe

You don't have to be at the beach, or have a pool to get a tan. Just set it up in your backyard, throw in some headphones, and enjoy

2. Do a spa day at home

Paint your own nails, do a face mask, meditate with some essential oils. It is possible to do all of that from the comfort of your home. Pinterest has some really good DIY face masks.

3. Make your own fruity drinks

You can make your own mojitos, margaritas, smoothies, and cocktails from your home for half the cost you would pay elsewhere. Plus you can regulate what goes in them. Scour Pinterest for some fun ideas of what to add to your next island favorite.

4. Take a hike somewhere new

The best part of vacation is venturing somewhere new, you can hike in your own town (or one close) for free. Google some great views or places to hike in your area and prepare to be amazed.

5. Find Local Stuff

find out what your local town does for free, for instance, mine does First Friday. All the local galleries, shops, and restaurants open their doors for the evening and there are lots of cheap specials! You would be amazed at what your town might offer.

6. Host a game night at your house, and have everyone bring one food item

Can't afford to throw a party either? Ask your friends to bring food, easy ones like hot dogs, chips, pizza, it can be a lot of fun.

7. Make food with friends

Cooking with others can be a lot of fun, just don't burn down your house

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
