As a college student, I operate under a very tight budget and often times that budget includes only the essentials. Sometimes, there are days like Valentine's Day where I really want to show how much I care about my significant other, but also not break the bank. Here's a few ideas that can make your special someone feel appreciated and loved without making your bank account cry:

1. Share a chocolate shake ... with two straws

It's old fashioned, but a fun way to spend a part of your night.

Price Range: $5-10

2. Make dinner together

Instead of going out to your significant others favorite restaurant, cook their favorite meal at home. It's a cheaper way to share a meal together and everything always tastes better when it's made by someone special.

Price Range: Depends on recipe

3. Get a heart shaped pizza

A lot of pizza places offer heart shaped pizza on Valentine's Day, and who doesn't love pizza?

Price Range: $10-15

4. Rent a movie with snacks

The alternative to going out to see a movie, and you don't even have to leave your house to do it. (Bonus points if you watch a romantic movie)

Price Range: Under $5

5. Go to a local art museum/gallery

Not only are they interesting and teaches you about history, but there's something very romantic about looking at art together. Art also is a topic of conversation.

Price Range: FREE depending on the museum

6. Go ice skating

If you want an even cheaper date, instead of renting skates, find some at a resale shop.

Price Range: $10-20 depending on skate rental

7. Indoor camping

Set up a tent indoors (or outdoors if it's warm enough). Roast marshmallows in a fire and make hot chocolate.

Cost: FREE depending on whether or not you have a tent, if not, refer to #9

8. Make a mix-tape/playlist

Corny as it may seem, it's fun to see what songs remind your significant other of you.

Cost: FREE with sites like Spotify

9. Make a pillow fort

Buy a cheap king size sheet, take pillows and chairs from your bed. Bring in some snacks and a movie. Optional: Christmas lights.

Price range: Under $10

10. Go star gazing

Lay out a blanket in your backyard if it's a clear night and enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Cost: FREE

I hope these fun, cheap date ideas help to make your Valentine's Day a success and something you'll always remember!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week.
