Cheap Date Ideas For College Students

College is the ultimate struggle for money, time, and for love. Attempting to date in college makes the struggle so much more real because you are vulnerable, broke, and have limited time to do anything. Dating can still be fun though if you're willing to be a little flexible.

Here are 13 cheap date ideas for broke college students:

1) Go out for ice cream.

This one can be both quick and cheap; try to go later at night because you're less likely to be cutting into a productive time (no one really does homework all night anyway).

2) Go to the humane society.

This one is free but you will likely spend a lot of time there because the animals are just too cute. I wouldn't recommend this if either of you are allergic to any animals.

3) Grab a quick bite to eat.

Pick a night for the two of you to grab dinner without friends and head to the caf. If you have some dining options that allow you to take your food to go, grab that and go somewhere for just the two of you.

4) Do homework together.

Unfortunately, homework is a priority for most people, but that doesn't mean you can't have a homework date. If you decide to do this, I would recommend choosing a date when you don't have too much due because it is likely you may not get a whole lot of work done. On the other hand, you can enjoy being in each others company as you work.

5) Movie day

Each of you pick your favorite movie, grab some popcorn and settle in for a movie night on the weekend.

6) Go to the gym together

If you both have a passion for working out, go together.

7) Go bowling/putt-putting

This one requires a little research but find out when your local bowling alley or putt-putt center does a discounted night or if they give a student discount.

8) Go see a new movie

Almost every theater provides a student discount, so go grab a matinee movie.

9) Go hiking on the weekends

Take a day off from homework and work and go on a hike. It's free and a great way to get to know your date.

10) Play a board game.

If neither of you own any board games or cards, ask to borrow from a friend or check one out from your school. A little friendly competition never hurt anyone.

11) Go on a drive.

Hop in the car and drive around town. Don't plan for any particular destination, or go the long way if you've got somewhere to be. Some of the best conversations can be had over scenery and music.

12) Coffee date.

This obviously won't work if neither of you like coffee, but if you do, it's a great way to start your day.

13) Outdoor concert

A lot of cities will have cheap concerts with lesser-known artists which can be a great way to get to know your person.

Dating in college can be difficult due to so many restraints, but if you go into it with a open mind and a willingness to be creative, it can be a lot of fun.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
