Chasing Visions: The Story Behind The Lyrics
Anna Livi

"We are a carefree youth chasing visions through and through. We are a wishful youth chasing visions the way we do."

These are the first lyrics to my song "Chasing Visions". "Chasing Visions" was the first song I ever wrote. Being young, I know it is hard to chase your dreams. Sometimes, as teenagers or young adults, we do not know exactly what we want. Those of us that do not know exactly what we want chase after everything that we have a desire for. My first verse says, "We are the young and we are the reckless chasing dreams until we're breathless." I am basically trying to reach out to everyone who listens. My targeted audience is teenagers and young adults. As young adults and teenagers, everyone seems to expect the worst out of us. We are wild and reckless, but we are no longer the children everyone treats us as. We are expected to act like adults, yet we are treated like children. We are at a point in our lives where we are trying to mature and grow up but life seems to keep getting in the way. We all have desires, but as adolescents, we are beyond stubborn and determined. We have the fight and the passion that others seem to lack, because we will stop at nothing to get what we want. "We'll get where we're going no matter how far the journey. We fight for our passions because they are burning. The future is what we simply make it. It's never too late to stand up and make a statement."

I have seen too many people my age give up and accept failure simply because someone older lacks faith in them due to their age. They tell us, "Be realistic. You will not always get what you want. Just accept that you do not know what you are doing and that you cannot do a thing about it. This is the real world." When I hear things like that, I am absolutely disgusted. Despite who you are, no one can tell you what is and what is not in your own personal life. YOU know what your passion is, and nobody can tell you otherwise.

No one can take your passion away from you unless you allow them to. We all say, "Who cares what people think?", and honestly, we all do. Everyone seeks approval from someone. When someone you look up to lacks faith in you, then you lose faith in yourself. BUT the greatest pleasure in life is doing what others said you could not do (Walter Bagehot). As Jillian Michaels once said, "Achievement is going to come with risk." Fighting for what you want is never easy, but with enough perseverance, motivation, and desire, it can be easier than you would think.

"You're gonna have to break it. You're gonna have to take it. You're gonna have to fake it; fake it 'till you make it."
My message through these lyrics revolves around strength. As cliche as this sounds, no matter how hard things get, you cannot allow anything to get in the way of your passions. You will have break downs, you will have hardships, you will have people that will try to bring you down; but whatever it takes to get through the day, do it. You may have to fake it sometimes. Fake a smile, force a laugh, let people know you are okay. Sometimes that is the hardest thing to do.

"To get through the song you're gonna need the lyrics. To get through this life, you're gonna have to fear it. To make the pass, you gotta play the game. If you want the fortune, you'll have to want the fame."

What I am trying to say is, is that everything you do will come with struggles and benefits. You cannot gain something and expect it to not come with baggage. If you want something bad enough, you are going to have to accept that it comes with work. (Cliche- I know). Nothing great was ever achieved without hard work.
"We live to love and love to chase our visions. You're never too young to actually make a difference. We dream to live and live to dream our futures. But to do that, you've gotta put all of the truth first." Being honest with yourself is never an easy task. We tell ourselves what we want to hear, simply because we fear our own reality. You are your worst enemy. You make things harder for yourself without even trying, however, you are the one person you cannot lie to.

"We are the wild youth chasing visions of the future."

As cliche as this sounds, never let anyone or anything get in the way of your dreams. Never stop chasing visions.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
