Characters We Hate To Love

Sometimes the most awful people make the most lovable characters.

In so many different TV shows and movies, there are those classic characters: the ones that really aren't great people, might even offend us on some level, but that we still can't help but love. Without further ado, here are some of the characters we hate to love that stand out to me most:

1. Chuck Bass and Blair Waldorf.

Especially early on in the series Gossip Girl, Chuck and Blair are actually awful people. Chuck objectifies women and is an all-around selfish douchebag, and Blair is obsessed with being Queen Bee no matter the expense to the girls around her. But somehow we still love these two, and they make a perfect pair. This is because they actually make each other better people. Chuck causes Blair to be more sensible and Blair causes Chuck to respect women and think about himself less.

2. Michael Scott.

Michael Scott is a big part of the reason The Officeis such an iconically hilarious and widely loved show. However, if we were to meet this guy in real life we would probably find him a lot less funny. With his inappropriate sense of humor and consistently racist remarks, he crosses a lot of lines. We still love him, though, and I think it's because deep down past all the inappropriateness, he has a big heart. He just wants to be loved and respected, so he uses his humor as a shield. And don't we all do that sometimes?

3. Walter White.

He cooks and sells crystal meth. His character turns into a murderous man who doesn't stop at anything and doesn't flinch when he has to murder another person who gets in his way. Despite all of this we still feel for him because he is doing all of it for his family (at least at first). We can't help but love him when we remember the man he used to be, teaching chemistry and being a great husband and dad.

4. Severus Snape.

Sometimes he seems like a good guy, sometimes he seems like an evil guy. We never really figure Snape out, but we definitely hate that he seems to always want to be getting Harry Potter in trouble and that he killed Dumbledore. When we hear his backstory and when we find out he's helped Harry, though, there is a lovable quality to him that we can't dismiss.

5. Edward Cullen.

Edward watches Bella sleep and is overall really dramatic and creepy, but half of us are still rooting for him and wish we had a boyfriend that was as amazing and loving as good ole Edward. The only reasoning I could come up with is that girls want a protective guy who will die for them, and Edward is that guy. Even if he's weird.

6. Miranda Sings.

Miranda Sings is a great character loved by many. In Haters Back Off, we learn just how selfish and annoying she can be. If we met this chick in real life, we wouldn't be able to believe how aggravating she is. But watching her from behind a screen is fun and entertaining.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
