Friendships can come in so many forms, shapes, and sizes. We have people that come into our lives for a while but then leave, friendships that we outgrow, and those friends that will be in your life forever- and they're all good!
We can have and need multiple friendship types to help us get through this crazy, fun, and stressful life, but there are certain characteristics that are undeniable in a true friend.
True friends:
1. Are always honest
No good relationship can come from dishonesty, so to be a true friend, honesty must be a priority. Whether it be an opinion on an outfit, a boy, or a choice, a friend must tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Lying is only tolerated when surprise parties are involved!
2. Challenge you to grow
Friends are suppose to help us become the best versions of ourselves. They push us out of our comfort zones into uncomfortable situations but only to help us find our true selves. A true friend challenges you to step out of the familiar and into the unknown all the while pushing you to become the best version of yourself.
3. Always support you
You know you have a special friendship when you have their support all of the time. From a tennis court, to a hard test, and to a tough decision, friends should be your encouragers, confidants, and sources of sound advice.
4. Lift you up
Life is hard, and there are so many moments that sometimes can just get the best of us. We become stressed, worried, sad, and everything in between- but that's where true friendships come into play. Friends should always be there to turn bad situations into good ones, bring out the positives, and cheer you up.
5. Lead you to the cross
While these other characteristics are no doubt important, I believe this one to be the most crucial. A true friend pushes you in your relationship with Him, holds you accountable, and helps grow your faith. Godly friendships are the definition of true friendships.
Friendships aren't perfect, no matter how true they may be. There will be times of trouble, but the best types of friendships are the resilient kind. So, hugs your friends today and remind them how thankful you are for them!
