Chapter Overview: Kappa Alpha Theta

Nickname: Theta

National founding: DePauw University in 1870.

UA founding: 1967.

Chapter name: Delta Omicron.

Chapter website: dotheta.wix.com/uatheta.

“My goal when going through recruitment was to find my home away from home and I am so grateful Kappa Alpha Theta has become exactly that. Kappa Alpha Theta brings together intelligent, giving, driven women who push each other to succeed at everything they do. With so many committees, teams, and opportunities for leadership, members are able to grow and develop their interests. Personally, when I look back on my experience in Kappa Alpha Theta I am grateful for the experiences and friends I have gained. With a strong emphasis on alumnae involvement and continuing membership even after college, there is definite truth in the saying ‘Theta for a lifetime.’” Emily Oulton, chapter president.

The 2014 pledge class also said a few words about why they decided pledge Theta.

“When I was going through recruitment, I met a girl in Theta who went to the other high school in my hometown. She was a year older than me and was one of the only people I knew from my area who went to Alabama. Right away, we got along great. She had a huge a huge influence on my decision to pledge Theta and now she is my big. Just having the feeling of home 1,000 miles away is a huge thing. I love all of the girls I have met on my journey! Theta is such a great mix of girls from all over the country.” Carolyn Bradley, PC ‘14.

“Throughout recruitment, I found that in Theta I met members involved in different organizations with different interests from all across the country. I love that Theta is diverse, but the chapter is still very genuinely close and supportive of each other. Our Theta chapter supports its national philanthropy, CASA, as well as performs routine service hours at the RISE center. Both gave me the opportunity to get involved nationally and locally here in Tuscaloosa.

"My favorite part about Theta during recruitment was skit day, when I found that the girls performing the skit acted like my same group of friends back home in Illinois. The Theta house is so open laid back, one of my favorites during recruitment. It was important to me to find a house that I felt comfortable going to between classes to meet up with friends, study, or nap. After pledging Theta, I have realized that all of my friends from across the country have become my second family while I am so far away from mine. The friends I have met through Theta have motivated me to become a better student and friend.” Ashley Roling, PC ‘14.

“My mom’s maid of honor was one of her Theta sisters, so growing up I always knew I wanted to be in a sorority and the same long lasting relationships. Recruitment was very stressful for me, but every time I went to the Theta house I felt relaxed and at home. I love how Theta is a diverse mix of girls and has girls involved in almost every area on campus. The girls in this house are the funniest, most passionate, and sincere girls I know and I can say that I have also met my future maid of honor.” Clara Hunt, PC ‘14.

"Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Kappa Alpha Theta exists to nurture each member throughout her college and alumnae experience and to offer a lifelong opportunity for social, intellectual, and moral growth as she meets the higher and broader demand of mature life."

birthday party

My birthday has never been my favorite holiday. I've found that I'm more excited to celebrate my friends' and family members' birthdays more than my own. I don't like being the center of attention, so I usually celebrate over dinner with a small group of family and friends. This way, I can enjoy myself naturally without feeling like I have to entertain everyone and make sure they are satisfied. In the past when I've had large parties, I was so nervous that people weren't perfectly content that I didn't enjoy myself at my own celebration.

College Informations

Most of us have already started the spring semester, and for those of you who haven't started yet, you suck.

It seems like coming back from winter break wouldn't really be a break all things considered, since we all come back to school and pick up right where we left off. We know exactly what to expect, yet we're unprepared every single time.

I'm serious

There are tons of unisex names that are popular: Taylor, Alex, Bailey, etc. There are also numerous names that are used for both sexes, but they’re not seen as “unisex” yet. People are slowly becoming accustomed to the dual use of these names, but for the most part, in their minds they associate certain names with certain sexes. And that leaves those of us with these names in many awkward situations.
