"You are your own worst enemy," is a saying that many people, including myself, can relate to. Everyone at some point in their life struggles with the concept of negative self-talk.
Negative self-talk is harshly criticizing or judging yourself unfairly due to thinking the negative perceptions of yourself are true.
This causes issues with low self-esteem because you are viewing yourself and your life from every negative angle.
Negative self-talk also influences your behavior, and it is usually in a self-defeating way. It causes a self fulfilling prophecy because what you believe directly influences your behavior.
If you were to think you're going to fail a test you're less likely to study hard, or even study at all, because you're stuck in the mindset of failure.
If you were to believe you could pass you're more likely to study and fully prepare for the test due to your determination.
Self-talk is something that occurs automatically.
When you notice your negative emotions you should think about the way you interpret yourself.
You should reflect on if there is evidence that proves the negative way you perceive yourself. You should also look at the situation in a more positive way.
By changing the way you think about yourself you can truly change your life for the better.
