When I was younger I always thought I would grow up writing and when I started really liking movies in middle school I thought about screenwriting. In high school, I started acting in plays at a local playhouse and I immediately wanted to pursue theatre. Now I'm majoring in Theatre and Dance to become a teacher and I couldn't be more proud of myself.
I never really felt a connection with any of my classes in school – not even an English class. I completely fell off the planet when it came to English due to moving and forever being behind in the academic. This was terrible for me since I enjoy writing. I always felt a connection with theatre though.
I chose to major in theatre because I love making people happy and telling them a new story. I want to teach theatre because I want make a difference to people like I received. I believe theatre is for the creative people who want to change the world in a different way that not most people would expect.
When I first took a theatre class in high school, it was nothing I expected. When I started taking theatre classes in college, it was definitely not what I expected and I love every bit of it. Even if it's not acting, I love it. I've learned a lot of technical aspects in theatre and it amazes me how much I didn't know. I am so ready to learn more too.
Some people like to doubt us for finding a career in theatre, but I don't think most realize how much theatre is around them. No, not all of us what to hit Broadway or try to be the new star in a movie, although some do and that's great too. I have met people who want to do so many different things in theatre that I never could have imagined.
There's a lot of things I hope to do in the future pertaining theatre and I know I will make a difference somehow. I hope to one day teach people who have the same dream of being different in the world, not listening to what other people, and just live the life of creativity-- all of fine art dreamers.
