Change: A Roller Coaster Ride

When you accept change, you open doors that were meant for you all along.

Whenever change would happen in my life, I would cringe. I am a natural introvert, so I would go back inside my shell and wish that things were changing. To me, change was not in my comfort zone. It made me uneasy and irritated. I found out later on that some change can be good. Until we decide to make changes, we will never grow into our full potential or grow into who God wants us to be. The definition of change is "to make or become different.” Well, like most people, once I get into my comfort zone, I don’t want to leave it. It’s just too comfy!

Until I accepted change, though, I could not grow. So, here are a few tips on why change is good:

1. Change is good because it can bring you new experiences.

For instance, I just got done with a beginners’ swimming class. Before this class, the pool and I were not close friends. I remember being a kid and just paddling my feet in the water and that’s it. Well, with the patience of my teacher, I finally relaxed in the water enough to float!! I was so excited! Then, I learned how to do the elementary backstroke while I floated! I felt accomplished and brave. Now, I have a lot more learning to do, but just mastering those basic skills helped me overcome my fear.

2. Change is good because it allows you to grow.

As I stated before, when you resist change, you actually refuse to grow as a person. There are things that might happen in life that you have no control over. There are struggles that you will have to overcome. When you accept that change, you will actually open doors that were eventually meant for you. Just think: Who will you be or become once you see the light at the end of the tunnel?

3. Change is good because it’s vital to a better life.

Have you ever heard the saying, “Doing the same thing over and over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.” This is all too true! So, if you want true change, you have to do something different in order to receive a different result. As much I love to watch and binge on Netflix, I know that 30 minutes to 1 hour of exercise is better for me in the long-run. The same repeated patterns will not equal in a different result. In order to truly grow as a person, you have to do something different.

4. Change is good because it takes some stress off of you.

I know some might disagree with me on this, but I feel that when you resist change, it makes some things harder on you. When you accept change, you allow life to let it take you on a roller coaster ride, full of excitement and joy. You get a chance to go with the flow and see what waits for you around the corner.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
