Childish Gambino is one of the best rappers of his generation. Hands down. With songs like "3005," "Bonfire," and "Freaks and Geeks," the multi-talented man has quite the catalog of music that we have all been eating up for the past 6 years. For years, he has been making music that has always flown under the radar, but, that should change after the release of his latest album: "Awaken, My Love!"

The album sounds totally different than anything he has ever made, and it is still great.

The first two singles from the album, "Me and Your Mama" and "Redbone" were funky and groovy situations that got me bopping my head along almost instantly.

While most artists go through phases where they change their sound, they usually are not good, but, for some reason, it does not seem like Gambino has fallen into this.

The album is way more ambitious than any of his other projects, in that there is almost no rapping on the album and the majority of the songs are Gambino singing over loud, funky beats that sounds like the main inspiration for the album was Jimi Hendrix.

While it certainly is different, it still features some of Gambino's best music that he has ever made.

"Redbone" is probably my favorite song that he has done up to this point. It starts with a funky baseline that is unlike anything I have ever heard in my life, let alone something that I have heard from a rapper. It transported me to a different world that I did not expect. I found myself lost in the beat and I also found myself listening to the song over and over again.

While there are so many good things about this album, there are are some things that do stick out as not good. The album does get harder and harder to listen to with lyrics that are hard to make out after listening to it for 30 minutes.

With that being said, Gambino, whose real name is Donald Glover, continues his amazing year of 2016 with this album that describes this year perfectly, weird and loud.

Following his stellar show, "Atlanta", Glover has continued to provide the world with tons of material since his last album, "Because the Internet" which was released in 2014.

In closing, "Awaken, My Love!" is one of Childish Gambino's better works to date, and while it will take some warming up to, it will not disappoint.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
