Embrace Change

No one stays exactly the same throughout life.

Change can be defined as "the act of making or becoming different." We evolve as a population by the small choices we make every day. It may seem simple, but it is daunting and scary in many ways. But it doesn't have to be.

The changing of seasons is natural and accepted.

Children are expected to grow up and move away from their parents.

We made the transition from landlines to cell phones.

All of these changes are now viewed as normal, and so too can seeking new experiences be.

It's always going to be scary, but applying for a writing position on campus is a good change.

Auditioning for a play is a good change.

Taking on a leadership position of a club is a good change.

Switching majors is a good change.

Being a camp counselor for a summer is a good change.

Ordering a new food is a good change

Tutoring English is a good change.

Acknowledging that hobbies don't have to define your life is a good change.

Going to a speaker you think sounds interesting is a good change.

Stepping out of your comfort zone every so often is a good change.

And choosing to end any of these experiences can be just as natural as the leaves changing in the fall.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.
