There's no problem with his future.

I like to listen to rap that has a meaning behind the rhymes, a message. I like when rappers rap about things that are bigger than them or when they do the opposite of what they think is cool. Chance the Rapper does that for me. He raps about his city, the violence, being an independent artist, and God. He is not afraid to tell the world what he is interested in even if his counterparts or his listeners think it’s lame. I have mad respect for that. I really like "No Problems” off his album, but I think it is because I hear it so much that it has become engrained in my head. The beat is nice, the melody is catchy and Chance just has a distinctive voice that resonates with me.

Before I looked up the lyrics to this song, I thought that this song was about him being an independent artist and how he was fine with it. I thought that this song was about how he doesn’t want to be a part of a label because they will bring him down. According to his interview on Ellen, that is what this song is about. Chance is representing the music of the future. He wants to be a role model to young artists trying to make it into the industry. He is saying that being a part of a label and making millions is not the end goal. The end goal is sharing your music with as many people that want to listen. Chance gives his music away for free. For free. He only makes money off of his merchandise (T-shirts, hoodies, hats, etc.) and his tours. He wants people to listen and hear his story. With that being said “No Problems” has no message. Yes, Chance is saying that he doesn’t want to be a part of the label, but the verses of the rap don’t give any support. I don’t hear his story about why he doesn’t want to be a part of a label, I have to look that up on my own. I want to hear in the music that he wants to be a role model for young artists, that he is trying to pave the way for the future of music. I don’t want to do extra research to have to understand, I want him to tell me with the beat and the distinctive voice.

Chance has really begun to make a name for himself. With artists like Kanye West, Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz in his corner, one can only expect to have a big impact in the music industry.

Chance is carrying his city on his back. He is proud of where he comes from and does not fail to let everyone know that his city is what made him into who he is today. Chance is an inspiration to young artists and fans. He is doing something that has never been done before. He is rapping about things that matter to him, and he is doing so without being signed to a label. All the while, he is gaining a huge following. I remember when I was sleep on Chance. I thought he was just another rapper trying to do what other had already done before. But then I started seeing the positive messages about the Coloring Book album and I had to see what all the hype was about. Let me just say that I am glad I did because Chance is unlike anyone else in the industry right now, and I can’t wait to see what free music he puts out next.
