Nine Things To Add To Your Summer Checklist

Now that school is out and all of the stress is lifted off of our shoulders, it's time to open our eyes to the world around us and live the life a college student is supposed to live. Take advantage of the summer by living life and being happy.

1. Beach

What's summer without good company and Strawberitas on the beach? The best days are the first couple weeks of summer when everyone makes it out to the most popular beaches (for me, that'd be Ft. Laudy or South Beach), and you can meet up with everyone from high school that you haven't seen in a while.

2. Pool it up

The beach is cool and all, but pool parties are way more intimate. You can control who you're surrounded by, and typically, the "after-the-pool" feeling is a lot more refreshing than a sandy and salty "after-the-beach" feeling.

3. Exercise

The new (and awesome) trend nowadays is for everyone to try and stay—or get—fit. It's great! And now that summer is here, there isn't school to hold us back from working out even more. Everyone basically lives in their bathing suits during the summer, so wouldn't it be awesome to look rockin' in it as well?

4. Indulge

I know I just harped on the importance of working out, but let's face it, most people work out just so they can eat whatever they want! I mean, what's better than Chipotle after a long day at the beach. Am I right, or am I right?

5. Take pictures

It might be the inner journalist in me, but I think pictures are the best part of... well, anything. Were you really there if you didn't take a picture? Did you really do it if you didn't Snapchat it? Capture moments, people. You'll be glad you did once you can look back on them at the end of the summer.

6. Roadtrip

Or even take a vacation with some friends over the summer! Be spontaneous! Be adventurous! Pack up a bag and go somewhere!

7. SLEEP

I know everyone wants to have a "live" summer, but did we get any sleep during the school year? Who actually slept during finals week? More than likely, you didn't get any sleep at all. Use this time to catch up on the sleep you didn't get in the spring and that you won't get in the fall. (Shout out to tailgating season!)

8. Take advantage of being home

After a couple of weeks of lounging around, the countdown to fall semester begins. But, take advantage of the home-cooked meals and quality time with mom and dad while you can. Take advantage of all of the free time and actually do something with it.

9. Be adventurous

Go out and do something that you've always wanted to do. Go skydiving. Go paddle boarding. Go jet skiing. You know how there's always that one professor that actually cares about our lives and asks us what we did this summer? Do something that will make you want to tell that teacher.

Live life and have fun.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
