10 Celebrities That Inspire Me To Be Me

I survived another week of classes. I'm stressed out. I'm walking back to my room. I walk in and hop onto my bed. Like I always do, I turn my computer and put on my feel-good playlist consisting of many artists. Hello, weekend! Every day, I wonder if I'm going to take that step and improve from Monday to Sunday. I wonder if I have the right mind to make it in the "real world." I think about my day. I have great days. Then I have really ugly days. That's okay. Actually, that's great. It's those really ugly days that make me keep going. Those days push me to appreciate myself and my life even more. Family and friends describe me as many things: quirky, weird, foolish, silly, chill, fun, emotional. Those are just a few words to describe me. Ahh. It's about that time. Say hello to the celebrities that influence me to be me!

1. Kobe Bryant

A few days ago, the sports world had to say goodbye to the Black Mamba. When I was younger, I was into sports. I always wanted to get better, regardless of my mental state, but I got upset when I fell short of my expectations. This man is a reason why I set my expectations high for myself. Sometimes people view me as if I'm aggressive, but I want to win. Plain and simple.

2. Morgan Freeman

One of the reasons I chose to become an English major. Have you heard Mr. Freeman narrate movies? He is a legend at what he does, and has won multiple Oscars. He can still tear the hell out of the box office. For my Batman fans, Lucius Fox did a "more than amazing job" on the "Dark Knight" trilogy. He does more than amazing on all of his movies, which inspires me to do even better than my best at whatever I try.

3. Kevin Garnett

Today, there is still a man that roams the planet screaming these three words in my head: "ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!" My friends compliment me on my wild energy that comes out of nowhere. On a serious note, controlling your emotions is always a tough task. If you know how to use them to your advantage, you might become a 15-time All-Star, nine-time All-Defensive First Team, and a champion like this guy. But, in a life sense of course.

4. Rihanna

This quote immediately came to mind when in relation to this beautiful human being: "I am a child, but I have to think and act like a woman, this business forces you to." Talking about making it in the real world, you can't just sit on things and wait. When things don't go your way, you can't blame others. You have to swallow your pride and keep moving. Thank you, Rihanna. (And you too, Mom!)

5. Miley Cyrus

This one is a unique choice. She is a piece of work like I am. She made me realize that it's okay to have a wild side to yourself. People continuously bash her who she is. Miley Cyrus is exactly who she is -- Miley. I am who exactly I am -- me. There's nothing you can do about it! Don't be anything you don't want to be, just be yourself.

6. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

I grew up watching this guy on TV. He is a childhood hero. If you follow WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), "The Great One" gets the crowd up off their seats as soon as his music hits and he performs "The Most Electrifying Move In Sports Entertainment," the People's Elbow. He is one of the most charismatic people to ever lay his hands on a microphone. That's the presence I strive to have one day. His presence is just beautiful. After all, he is the People's Champion. "IF YA SMELL!... WHAT THE ROCK!... IS COOKIN'!"

7. Jay-Z

People consider this man to be "overrated." But you can't take back what he has done for hip-hop, sports and the world over the course of 21 years. He is an icon. According to Forbes, his net worth is around $510,000,000. He is the founder of Roc Nation Sports, the number-one landing spot for athletes today. He has produced 12 solo studio albums, all of which have gone platinum. He's done it all, and now sits among the best. When you reach the top, you can only "Watch the Throne" from there. (Note: His counterpart who helped him produce that legendary album will appear on here later.)

8. Randy Moss

Normally when I think about football, I'm pretty passionate about it, despite not being a fan of either New York team. One day when I was six years old, sitting down eating dinner with my family, I saw a one-handed catch (similar to the one above). I immediately fell in love with not only this man, but the team as well. I've been a Minnesota Vikings fan since then. Randy Moss changed the wide receiver position forever. The first time he landed on the field, everybody knew how special he was going to be. He had the greatest year ever at the position during his rookie campaign. He's also reminded me that it's all good to celebrate with flair. Sorry, Green Bay Packer fans and Odell Beckham Jr. You'll never be like this man.

9. Wiz Khalifa

I've been a fan of him since he dropped his debut album, "Show and Prove." He's changed over the years with his new album, "Khalifa," but who doesn't experience change? The leader of the Taylor Gang army lands on here because his attitude about life is just about having a good time with your friends, and more importantly, yourself. The stoner rapper's music puts me into a zone to do well and make others feel happy about themselves. Wiz Khalifa is his own man and he defines it through his music. His music is unique in its own right. The energy he brings is just unbelievable. Go to one of his live shows. Whenever I plan on going out with friends, I blast his music and feel like I'm on top of the world, guaranteeing the night of my life. He will make you feel good at all times. That's Wiz Khalifa for you.

10. Kanye West.

Speaking of "Watch the Throne," Jay Z's counterpart is the final person to find his way here. A good friend of mine addressed this man to me as a mistake once. My attitude is mostly reflected off of him, from my happy-to-serious expression to having the highest standards. Outside of my dad and my grandpa, Kanye West is the third male figure I look up to. His success is just unparalleled. Nobody can touch him. What he says is the absolute truth. People think he is a bigot, classless, controversial, an asshole. He's not going to mind you because "he's too busy writing history." He is truly Shakespeare in the flesh. His music is just medicine. It makes me blaze up ideas that I'd never come up with. The respect I have for Mr. West is just off the charts. He might come off as arrogant, but in years to come, he will be appreciated for his mastery. Thank you, Mr. West, for making me the person I am today.

You've seen a glimpse of myself through all of these people. Thank you for giving your time to witness the kind of person I am. We all have influences in our lives that make us who we truly are. We are all capable of doing the greatest things in life. We are all "Shakespeares in the flesh." We can do everything if we put our minds to it. We just have to be ourselves along the way.

I'll never forget the day that someone told me these words: "Madison, I think you're a good friend to everyone but yourself." I stood there completely in awe of that statement. Now, I realize that you can't fully be there for other people unless you're there for yourself, too. You can't show up for others until you're willing to show up for yourself.
