In case you missed it, “Big Bang Theory” star Kaley Cuoco was a hot topic in the tabloids last week after sharing her experience with plastic surgery – she had her nose and boobs done, and does not regret it for a second.
Now I have to say, I am pretty surprised that the world is still so fascinated by celebrities getting plastic surgery. I frankly do not understand why it is such a big deal because, well, I think it is a pretty normal thing.
Time is inevitable, so, naturally, we all age. Our skin starts to sag, wrinkles begin to develop and the things we never really liked about ourselves seem to become even more prevalent. Unfortunately, these signs tend to appear earlier than we are ready for, and many people struggle with them. For some, an aging appearance signifies the unbelievably fleeting, and somewhat frightening, nature of time. For others, aging brings on low self-esteem that can affect their daily lives. Either way, it’s not a fun situation.
Plastic surgery, however, should not be the immediate answer to resolving those issues. First and foremost, I believe that everyone needs to embrace natural beauty and the process of aging, or at least get to a level of acceptance, so that we can see the innate beauty within all of us – not even plastic surgery can replace that. We also must be sure to focus on how we feel, because it doesn’t really matter what other people say; it’s all about being happy with ourselves internally.
That said, even if you have made peace with how you look (whether it be from signs of aging or not), sometimes, there are insecurities that you can’t quite fix naturally – maybe you wish you could fit into a slightly bigger bra, or maybe you wish that wrinkle would just dissipate. As an advocate of self-confidence, I say that if there is something out there that you can do to make you feel better about yourself, without causing you any harm, go for it – and that includes cosmetic procedures, which are already so normal in today’s society. Youth is coveted, and with good reason, so it makes sense that many turn to plastic surgery and Botox to maintain a natural-looking younger appearance.
It’s really when cosmetic procedures get overused and abused that problems arise, and we all know that can happen a little too often. How many duck faces or boobs-up-to-chins have you seen? But when someone uses plastic surgery within reason, it can mask some his or her insecurities all while maintaining a natural-looking aesthetic.
So, I think it’s time to cool it with all the gasps around celebrity cosmetic surgeries. Sure, it’s a new tidbit of gossip, but so is any star-related information. I think Cuoco handled her story perfectly; she owned up to her decisions, said she did it all for herself and said how happy she is with her decision. It doesn’t get much better than that! Whether you would or would not get plastic surgery yourself, the choice is 100 percent yours…but at the end of the day, you make sure to respect the decision of others.
