Celebrities Coming Out About Their Mental Health Makes Me Feel Like I'm Not Alone

Mental health can be a very tough subject. It is the spot of big controversy, and many people tend to get offended and/or defensive over these topics. However, there is one thing that I know to be true. Coming from someone with mental health issues themselves, I know that I am not alone.

It can be difficult to believe that rich and famous people suffer from mental health issues as well. You're probably thinking, 'What do they have to be worried about?' 'They don't have any problems to deal with.' 'They have their whole lives figured out.' This is not, in fact, true. In the past years, so many celebrities have been coming out with their issues, from Dwayne Johnson to Demi Lovato. Let's take her, for example. Demi has revealed that she has struggled with eating disorders, cutting, and depression, which led to alcoholism and drugs. That is a LOT for only one individual to go through.

She has also revealed that she wanted to take her life, at the young age of 7. SEVEN years old. How can a child that young feel so strongly about themselves that they want to leave this earth? Demi got the help she needed, and she has been sober for a while now. Today, she is a huge advocate for mental health. She still has those days where she may call herself fat, or ugly, but she knows to ignore it; those voices in our heads are false.

Personally, I live with generalized anxiety disorder and social anxiety, as well as body dysmorphia and OCD. My mind is a constant, ugly, gray storm of self-criticism and comparison to others. Sometimes, when I'm at my lowest, I truly believe that I am alone and that no one else will be able to understand my struggles. However, since the increase in advocation for mental health, I now know even the most perfect people (at least to me) struggle with the same things.

There are celebrities who don't like the way they look. There are celebrities who constantly worry. There are celebrities who spent days locked up inside, unable to leave their beds. They actually have more in common with us than we think. So, next time that you're in tears under your covers unable to leave the house, just remember that these celebrities have gone through the same thing. They aren't always as happy as you think, and deep inside, they are just like you.

Hey celebrities, keep doing what doing. You are so amazingly strong, and you all rock. Keep being your inspirational selves.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
