It's hard to separate the person from the celebrity. We see it all the time:
Chris Brown being physically abusive toward Rihanna.
Bill Cosby and Ben Roethlisberger sexually assaulting multiple women.
I need a full day for the actions of our current president.
More recently, there have been accusations about R Kelly keeping young women in an abusive cult. Yanno, 15 years after a trial (while yes, he was acquitted) where he was literally caught on tape urinating on a young girl and throughout the years has had to settle out of court on cases that detailed pretty much statutory rape, married a FIFTEEN YEAR OLD GIRL, among other horrific stories.
Yet these people, with the exception of Cosby due to his age, still have very prominent careers. Brown has recently released an album, Roethlisberger is still a highly paid NFL QB, and R Kelly still commands a high salary for concerts and appearances.
My only question is, why do we have these moral conflicts with celebrities? Just because they can sing, dance, throw a ball, and can jump through a hoop sideways while eating corn, why would we hold them to a different standard than we would for any other person?
In fact, these are the people we should be holding to higher standards as they are the people not only we see, but those younger and more impressionable see. Nothing that these people can do should allow them to be exceptions to the rules. Money and talent does not make one above morals.
These people should not get a pass.and I personally will not give them one.
