Celebrating Two Years With My Best Friend

Happy 2nd birthday, Isaac!

Celebrating Two Years With My Best Friend

This past Saturday, my son celebrated his second birthday.

To say that my time with Isaac as a baby has gone fast would be an understatement. It seems like only yesterday I was cradling his seven pound, four ounce body against me and breathing in his sweet newborn scent. However, while I miss the early days and months with Isaac, the last two years have been an incredible adventure and journey.

In honor of celebrating my "two year anniversary" with my best friend, here are eight highlights from the time Isaac and I have spent together so far.

When he proved that Baby Watch was much cuter than Bay Watch. Isaac, always brave and fearless, isn't put off by the big waves at the beach at all. He would spend all day running in and out of the ocean if I let him. There is nothing cuter than his laugh when he's running around on the beach!

When my little elf met Santa Claus! Isaac wasn't too sure of Ole' Saint Nick at first, but he warmed up to the jolly old man in red before too long. While I may be a little biased, I think Isaac was the cutest elf to ever apply to Santa's workshop! The second time Isaac saw Santa Claus, he was happy to see Kris Kringle! Maybe he had some explaining to do...

When we took him to the mountains...and he wasn't impressed! While some people like to relax in nature, Isaac likes to nap! Nothing like warm summer air and beautiful mountain views to put this little guy out. (Thankfully, when he woke up, he enjoyed himself.)

When Isaac got to meet his great-GREAT-grandma Ruby. Before the Lord called her home, my mother and I were close with my great-grandma Ruby. Getting the opportunity to allow Isaac to meet her on my eighteenth birthday was irreplaceable. This picture is of a precious memory I will always hold dear to my heart.

Ringing in the New Year! This past New Year, Isaac was old enough to enjoy fireworks and play with sparklers (under extremely close supervision). His giggle at the sparkling lights in the sky warmed my heart and made me even more excited for the year to come!

Isaac's Sunday naps after church with Pixie. There is nothing sweeter than watching my sweet boy doze with "man's best friend." Our dog, Pixie, loves Isaac and will sleep in the chair beside his bed while he naps. I know that Isaac is always safe during nap time!

When he started climbing EVERYTHING and gave me a heart attack. Growing up comes with new skills and abilities. An ability Isaac has gained recently is the ability to climb---including trees. If we're playing in the front yard, he is almost always up in our tree. He's all boy!

Seeing him brighten everyone's day. Everywhere Isaac goes, he gives a smile and a wave. He is a friend to everyone. He brightens up the day of whoever meets him. Every time we go out, people stop to talk to him and always leave smiling.

The same goes with my family. Ever since Isaac arrived, he has brought nothing but joy, laughter, and love into our lives. Every day is an adventure, but it's the little things---like watching him nap with the dog or seeing his wide smile every time we visit the beach---that makes this journey memorable.

Isaac, the last two years have flown by, but they have been the best two years of my life...so far. I can't wait to see what else comes our way. You are my biggest blessing and I love you to the moon and back.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.
