Zac Brown once wrote and sang
"I thank god for my life
And for the stars and stripes
May freedom forever fly, let it ring.
Salute the ones who died
The ones that give their lives
So we don't have to sacrifice
All the things we love" (Chicken Fried / Zac Brown Band)
Ever year at the end of May, we celebrate Memorial Day. We celebrate all the solider's lives who have died serving and protecting our country.
My father served twenty years in the United States Navy. I was a lucky child, and my dad retired when I started kindergarten. Most of his Naval career happened before I was even a thought in my parents head. My father's experiences gave me many things. One thing my father always gave me was stability. My dad left on his last deployment right before my first birthday and luckily my dad came home to me and my mom.
Not every child gets their mother or father back. Not every spouse gets their spouse back. Not every parent gets their child back. We all can take one day out of the year to respect those who have fallen.
Posts on social media, hanging flags and sending prayers show these families that they have support. Keep posting, hang flags, wear red, white and blue, and pray for the recovery of their families and that their wounds may heal.
