Gathering around a food-filled table with your parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Updating them on your life this semester. Informing them on your future plans after graduating. Stuffing your face with pumpkin bread and pie. Thanksgiving is an annual tradition with the people you love and are thankful for. However, there are other people that you hope to share the holiday with too.
Friendsgiving a special event with your friends. You either replicate a traditional Thanksgiving fest with turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, veggies, etc. or make up your own food tradition with mac and cheese, pizze, or whatever. Most of the time you make some of the items, but then buy foods that your mom or grandma can only perfect. That's when that store bought pie or baked goods come in handy. You don't need to impress your friends on your cooking skills. It's more about spending time with them and not worrying about school.
While your friends may not be blood related, they are your companions while you are away at college. They are your support system when you need someone to talk to. They are special people in your life that make you happy and laugh. Why shouldn't you have a special holiday to celebrate your friendship?
If you haven't participated in Friendsgiving before, you should consider it. I, personally, will be celebrating the special event with my friends for the first time this weekend. I am looking forward to a new tradition that I hope to continue once I am out of college. I mean it is another time that it's appropriate to eat as much food as you can in one meal as well as pumpkin everything.
