The holidays are my favorite time of the year. I love the wreaths and lights and trees that scatter the city and bring a festive tone. It makes me feel warm inside. I love ugly Christmas sweater parties and dirty Santa parties and cookie exchanges. But I understand there are people who don't. And I am perfectly okay with that. There are people who do not celebrate Christmas. They celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and the many other holidays in December. I have seen so many ridiculous posts on Facebook saying "It's not 'Happy Holidays', it's 'Merry Christmas'!" When did 'Happy Holidays' become an offensive term? It is hard for me to understand why people can't just celebrate the holiday they want to and let others celebrate what they want to. Whether you tell me Merry Christmas or Happy Hanukkah or Happy Holidays, I will just be honored you took the time to wish me a happy something. I promise it is not hard to be tolerant of other people. You don't have to agree with others' beliefs, no one is asking you to. But don't go on an ignorant rant on social media about how it is ridiculous your school supports the generalization of holiday parties, because it just makes you look like a scrooge. So drink your eggnog and spin your dreidles and eat fruitcake and be merry. Happy Holidays to all and to all a good night.
