November is a month with many interesting designations for holidays and celebrations which range far beyond Thanksgiving, but by far the most interesting one is National Novel Writer's Month. To celebrate National Novel Writer's month, those who are up for a challenge actually attempt to complete the writing of a novel by the time November 30th rolls around. Write-Ins have become a popular way to facilitate this challenge by giving aspiring authors a specific time and place to complete their masterpieces.
Every Wednesday in November the Fogler Library at The University of Maine has been hosting Write-Ins from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. These events are open to anyone and everyone who is or wants to participate actively in National Novel Writer's Month by penning or typing 50,000 words of their story. An hour a week may not seem like a very long time to write to get to that golden number of 50,000 words starting from November 1st and ending on the 30th, but it definitely proves that if you make time for a goal you get that much closer to achieving it.

Most people who want to become an author do not because they claim a lack of time or energy. Those who achieve their dream of becoming an author, on the other hand, set aside the time no matter what to get words down on the page. They push themselves to reach those 50,000 words whether it be morning, noon, or night. It is the same as if a marathon runner was to train for an event. They put in the time and effort on a set schedule to ensure that by the time the marathon comes around they can make it through those 26.2 miles. It is not going to be easy by any means but at least it will get done. That was the point of completing all the training after all.
Writing a novel can take a lot of time, effort, and energy but so does anything else worth doing. Let inspiration strike this month and see where it takes you. Who knows, by the time November 30th comes around you could be ready to take your manuscript to the next level.
