I hear it every year: "It's November, chill with the Christmas music.", "It's just wrong to put a tree up before Thanksgiving.", and the worst of all "Christmas season starts December 1st."
For me, Christmas season starts November 1st. After the Halloween decorations descend back into the basement, it's time to get that tree out of the attic. For others, it may be later on- and that's fine. We all have our own opinions about when it's appropriate to spread Christmas cheer; there's not necessarily a right or wrong time to hang up a wreath, or jam to *NSYNC Christmas. There is, however, a wrong way to tell people when to celebrate Christmas.
After years of being questioned about when I decide to break my Christmas tree out, I can't take it anymore. I'm tired of being shamed for wanting to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year for more than one month. It's the best holiday, and I can't celebrate it before it's socially acceptable? In the words of Simon Cowell, "It's a no from me".
There's, quite frankly, not enough time between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It flies by, and then you're left to take down a tree you put up only a month before.I love the feeling (and look) of a glowing Christmas tree too much to only leave it up for one month. Holiday decorations can bring so much life to a room, and one month is just not long enough to surround myself with all of the beautiful and bright things that happen during the holiday season.
