In my time here at CCNY, and especially in the weeks leading up to finals, I've become well acquainted with the NAC library. I've always found that I study best in the library – I can't focus well enough in my dorm room, and I need a distraction-free place where I can spread out my work in front of me. Here are a few of my go-to study spots in the NAC library:
1. Study cubbies, 3rd floor
The library has study cubbies – desks with walls on either side – on almost all its floors, but I like the ones on the 3rd floor best. Set up like office cubicles, with walls almost completely surrounding the desk save for an entrance space, these provide a more isolated study experience than most other places in the library. Note that the 3rd floor isn't a quiet floor, but just plug in some headphones and you're good to go.
2. Private study rooms, 3rd, 4th and 5th floors
These thin rooms lined up along the back wall are probably some of the most isolated places to study in the library. Although they do not have doors, they give a sense of having your own space to study, separate from the rest of the library. The long desks in these rooms can fit two or three chairs, so if you have a friend or two to study with, these rooms are the perfect size. The only problem is that they're usually busy, and you might have to wait to find an open one.
3. Group study rooms, 1st floor
If you're willing to put in the effort to rent out a room, these are a great place to study. The walls are dry erase boards, and you can hook up a laptop to the screen in the center of the room. These are perfect for working on group projects or studying with classmates and solving problems on the board.
There are also a few other libraries around campus that are generally quieter and less busy than the one in NAC. The three that come to mind are the music library in Shepard, the science and engineering library in Marshak and the architecture library in Spitzer. I am not as familiar with these libraries, but they are a good alternative to the one in NAC.
Good luck with studying, and good luck on all of your finals. You got this.
