My family has been going to the Cayman Islands for many years now and this year I will be traveling down to Grand Cayman for the 7th time. The island holds so much beauty and amazing activities unlike any of the other islands in the Caribbean. The Caymans are definitely bucket list worthy and here is why.
The food.
In the Cayman Islands, you will have some of the most amazing food of your life. There are not many chains there, so you have to go to local restaurants and try the local food. There is nothing better than fresh fish caught that morning or jerk chicken made the way it is supposed to be. Not to mention they have some amazing tropical drink - homemade rum punch being one of my favorites!
The people.
Most Caribbean islands you can find countless "all-inclusive" resorts that provide everything you could possibly need on the resort and keep you from exploring the island you came to visit. Typically, this is for your own safety because some islands are not the safest but that is not the case with the Cayman Islands. The island actually has zero "all-inclusive" hotels because there is so much to do across the island. The locals that live there and own businesses are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. I have never felt unsafe on the island because the locals love having you there – tourism is what keeps income flowing to their households and what puts food on the table for most of the locals there.
The snorkeling and scuba diving.

The Cayman Islands is home to some of the best snorkeling and scuba diving sites that are honestly breathtaking. If you have never done either in your life, definitely add it to your bucket list. It is such a cool experience and you are able to see a whole new world underwater. If you ever wanted to know what it actually feels like to be a mermaid, definitely try scuba diving at some point in your life. In Grand Cayman, there are opportunities to go on a 'discovery dive' where you can scuba dive without certification! Definitely something to do and cross off of your bucket list.
The once-in-a-lifetime experiences.
Kaylee Richard
In Grand Cayman, there are different activities you can do that you may never have the opportunity to do again in your life. Besides snorkeling or scuba diving, you can swim with the dolphins. I know there are other places where you can do this, but if you never go to those places you may never have another chance! Across the street from Dolphin Cove, you can visit the Turtle Farm and hold small sea turtles. When will you ever have another chance to do that? You can also visit a place called Stingray City, a location unique to the Caymans that can only be reached by boat where you can pet, feed, and even kiss the stingrays!
On your trip to Stingray City, you will most likely stop by Starfish Point where you can get all your "Insta-worthy" starfish pictures! But by far the best once-in-a-lifetime experience you can find in the Cayman Islands is the bioluminescent tour. Bioluminescent is when a living organism produces light. In the bay near Rum Point, there is small plankton that lights up the water as you glide through the bay on a kayak or a boat! There are only a handful of places in the world where you can see this phenomenon, so it really is something you may never experience again.
The shopping.
In the heart of George Town, you can find some great touristy shopping but there are also some really great homemade crafts. You can always find something in a shop or at the Cayman Craft Market that captures the beauty of the island or the culture. You can also grab some amazing rum cakes that you can only find in the Caribbean!
The safety.
Like I said earlier, the Cayman Islands are one of the safest Caribbean islands! In Grand Cayman, you can walk to town from your resort, go on tours with the locals, and trust any taxi in town! While other places you are strongly encouraged to not leave the resort, in Cayman, many resorts actually help you set up trips to visit different places all around the island. Another plus is the drinking water is safe!
