So it's that time of year where everyone starts to get sick you know? It sucks. It just so happens that every single time I catch a cold I tend to lose my voice as well and it's pretty annoying. My brother actually solved this little problem of mine when he made me what is called a "hot tottie" and let me tell you- it works miracles in just three simple steps. I was in the musical "Oliver" playing the part as Nancy- the lead female role- when I came down with a cold and sure enough I lost my voice. My brother solved all my problems over night and when I tell you I went front no voice to my old self in just one night of sleep there is no exaggeration here people. So I suppose I'll share my secret and give you the recipe for all you singers/performers out there and anyone else who loses their voice as frequently as I do- you're welcome.
1. Turn on the tea pot
First you're going to make yourself a nice cup of plain black tea- any kind really.
2. Pick a mug
Next you're going to pick out your favorite mug and put about a teaspoon of lemon juice, a tablespoon of honey, and either a shot or a half of a shot of whiskey (depending on your tolerance for the stuff) and mix it together.
3. Melt and mix
Lastly, you're going to pour the hot black tea into the mug that holds the rest of the concoction and there you have it- a hot tottie. Easy right?
In just three simple steps your voice will be cured! I drank one cup of this at night and went to sleep and my voice was 20 times better in the morning, so I had one more cup the next day while I was getting ready for the show and I was good to go. Also, a tip if this is for your child you can do it without the whiskey and add a bit more lemon juice seeing as they both kill the bacteria causing the vocal cords to swell.
I hope this helps with the sick weather approaching, drink up and enjoy!
